The regular ending of the simple past is "ED"
1- Regular verbs that in the present end with: /p/ /k/ /s/ /sh/ /tch/ (sound) are pronounced /t/ in the past:

dance - danced ask - asked
notice - noticed like - liked
miss - missed finish - finished
stop - stopped watch - watched
walk - walked
2- Regular verbs that in the present end with: /t/ /d/ (sound) are pronounced /id/ in the past:
/id/
want - wanted expect - expected
wait - waited end - ended
rent - rented attend - attended
invite - invited need - needed
select - selected extend - extended
3- For the other endings it is pronounced /d/ (sound):
/d/
learn - learned arrive - arrived
listen - listened follow - followed
sign - signed order - ordered
live - lived answer - answered
Exercise:
Put these words into three lists: words ending with /d/ , /t/ , and /id/.
